New businesses, promotions to know in Tempe

Tempe has an array of new businesses, promotions and other business announcements for residents and Valley locals to be aware of this month. 

Below are some of the offerings and news from Tempe businesses:

Openings

Hawaiian Bros, a popular fast-casual concept serving Island-inspired Hawaiian fare, opened its first Arizona location Aug. 7 at 1900 E 5th St., inside the Tempe Food Court. This location is operating through online ordering and delivery only. The full-service restaurant will open in early 2024. Its simplified menu showcases the flavors of Hawaii, including island-inspired plate lunches with fresh meats like slow-roasted pulled pork and marinated teriyaki chicken paired with white rice and tangy macaroni salad.

Carless community Culdesac Tempe, 2025 E Apache Blvd., has officially opened and is accepting applications for residents. According to its website, the real estate developer builds neighborhoods that embrace community, open space and mobility. Rent at the new community ranges from $1,300 to $3,200, with studio, 1-bed, 2-bed and 3-bed floor plans. Advertising no cars, the densely-packed apartment community has retail, entertainment and other shared amenities to facilitate this way of life. The first 200 residents will receive a Lectric XP 2.0 ebike for free, and all residents receive discounts on alternative modes of transportation.

Scottsdale’s Crust Brothers Pizza has opened its new Tempe location at 5100 S McClintock Drive, Unit 101. Brothers Eddie and Mark Miller used their over 70 years of experience in hospitality and restaurants to launch their first location in Scottsdale in the fall of 2017. Now, the brand has grown to another location in Tempe, serving pizza, subs and more. The restaurant was also named one of the top 100 pizza spots in the United States, according to Yelp. Both of its locations also offer online ordering for pick up and delivery.

Pronto by Serrano’s at 6440 S Rural Road, has reopened after a three-year closure. Serving Sonoran-style Mexican fare with the ability to customize, this updated concept was developed by the Serrano family to share their recipes in a more fast-casual setting. The Serrano family operates Serrano’s Mexican Restaurant, and Pronto sells adapted versions of those dishes for diners on the go. Mediterranean fast-casual restaurant chain CAVA opened its Tempe location at 920 E University Drive, on Aug. 4. The new restaurant is just over 3,000 square feet with a patio and will employ 35 team members, according to a release. Currently, the chain has additional locations in the Valley in Phoenix and Scottsdale. Visit www.cava.com for information.

 

Promotions

Tempe Marketplace’s “Sip and Stroll” program has recorded early successes having launched in January. Following recent state legislation, shoppers age 21 and up can purchase alcoholic beverages at designated restaurants and bars and then enjoy the beverage throughout certain outdoor areas. At Tempe Marketplace, 7,831 wristbands have been distributed since January with seven establishments currently participating: Dave & Buster’s, Genghis Grill, Harkins Theatres, Gen Korean BBQ House, Kabuki, Shake Shack and Lumberjaxes. Looking to escape the heat? Omni Tempe Hotel at ASU, 7 E University Drive, is offering pool passes for just $10 per day, while daybeds can be rented for $50 per day. Locals can enjoy the base-level pool passes but also opt for more exclusive, private cabana rentals for $150 per day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Those interested can also get an additional 20% off daybeds and cabana rentals using codes PHXASUD and PHXASUC through Sept. 5. The hotel is also offering a Park, Stay and Play offer that includes overnight accommodations, a $75 dining credit for the hotel’s different dining experiences and complimentary valet parking for one vehicle.

 

New Hires

Former Sedona Pines Resort/Sapphire Resorts vacation counselor Jacob Kirn has associated with the Tempe/Ahwatukee Coldwell Banker Realty, 1720 E Warner Rd, as an affiliate agent. According to a press release, Kirn brings 23 years of real estate experience to the office.

Colin Diaz, president of the Tempe Chamber of Commerce, 1438 W Broadway Rd, was recently elected to serve on the board of directors for the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives, an association of over 9,000 professionals who work for and with more than 1,600 chambers of commerce. The national board represents more than 50 organizations, including many of the world’s largest and most influential regional chambers of commerce, a press release stated. In addition to this regional appointment, Diaz is the only accredited chamber executive in the Valley.
