Chandler's planning administrator, Kevin Mayo, points out during a social media video that helping the city land a Trader Joe's was one of his first assignments as a city intern 25 years ago. The city and Trader Joe's both recently confirmed a South Chandler shopping center will have a vacant space occupied within the next few years by the popular specialty grocer.

INDEPENDENT NEWSMEDIA
A Trader Joe’s market is going to be built in a shopping center on the northeast corner of Ocotillo Road and Arizona Avenue in South Chandler.
Not many details, including an opening date, have been announced for the store, to be built on a vacant space between LA. Fitness and PetSmart in a center anchored by Target.
Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke, the city’s planning administrator, Kevin Mayo, and other city staff made the announcement in a recent social media video.
Hartke called it the most-requested chain store over the past two decades. Mayo said it was his assignment to try to help locate a Trader Joe’s in the city when he was an intern about 25 years ago.
Trader Joe’s announced the Chandler location on a list of about six newly planned stores.
