Gilbert student Shaurya Arora will represent Arizona at the National Civics Bee Championship in Washington, D.C., after earning top honors in local and state competitions.
Arora won the Gilbert National Civics Bee before advancing to the state competition, where he was named Arizona State Champion. His performance secured a place in the national championship scheduled for Oct. 14 in Washington, D.C.
His award-winning essay focused on affordable housing challenges in Arizona and their impact on families, communities and economic opportunity. The essay explored ways to improve housing affordability through community engagement, public awareness efforts, financial assistance programs and civic participation.
The Gilbert Chamber Foundation supported Arora's participation in the competition through essay clinics designed to strengthen research, writing and civic engagement skills.
The foundation also provided access to a public speaking program that offers coaching in presentations, interviews and communication techniques.
Arora's advancement to the national championship highlights his academic achievement and civic involvement while providing an opportunity to represent Gilbert and Arizona on a national stage.
