Southeast Valley students sweep top three spots in state civics bee

Students from Gilbert, Mesa and Queen Creek took the top three spots at the state round of the National Civics Bee.

Shaurya Arora of Gilbert won first place and $1,100, and Collin Thorstensen of Mesa took second and won $500, and Gideon Joffe won $250 for placing third.

The state round of the competition was hosted on June 10 by the Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry at Grand Canyon University.
