Surprise landfill fire contained, mop-up underway

A privately owned landfill near 195th Avenue and Deer Valley Road in Surprise has been contained after two days, city officials said Sunday.

A landfill fire in Surprise has been contained about 48 hours after it began, city officials said Sunday.

Surprise Fire-Medical crews responded to the blaze on Friday, April 24, at a privately owned landfill near 195th Avenue and Deer Valley Road.

Several agencies worked to control the fire, and crews contained it to the facility footprint, preventing any spread to surrounding homes or businesses, according to the city release.
