Surprise home permits trended down last fiscal year

City presents updated figures on growth

New residents have not stopped moving to Surprise, but single-family home and commercial permits showed a downward trend in fiscal year 2026.

The city’s Economic Development Department will present those statistics and other numbers to the Surprise Planning and Zoning Commission at its next meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1 at City Hall, 16000 N. Civic Center Plaza.

Last fiscal year, the city issued 2,020 single-family home permits. That was down nearly 700 from the previous year.
