Surprise appealing wage case with former employee

Worker retired after surgery, but city argues she could work

The Surprise City Council is expected to approve funding to appeal a judge’s ruling that a former employee deserved money for lost wages after a job injury despite the city contending she could work.

Margaret Perez alleged she suffered a knee injury in July 2018 when she stepped out of a city truck, ultimately resulting in a back injury and back surgery.

An administrative law judge sided with Perez, but the city wants another look at the case.
