Surprise and partners Hospice of the Valley and Sun Health are offering a free public program, called “Understanding Dementia: A Challenging Journey.”
It’s scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at The Colonnade, 19116 N. Colonnade Way.
Maribeth Gallagher, who directs Hospice of the Valley’s Dementia Program, which has received national and international awards for its innovative approaches to dementia care, is the scheduled speaker.
Attendees will gain insights into understanding dementia, how the disease progresses from early to advanced stages, ways to develop strategies to make and maintain meaningful connections with the person with dementia, the importance of valuing the caregiver role and exploring ways to reduce stress.
