Every year, Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church in Sun City West, 13658 W. Meeker Blvd., awards scholarships to nursing students at Banner Del Webb Hospital and to graduates from Valley Vista High School who lack the resources needed to pursue higher education. There are currently 26 students living their dream, some of whom are the first in their family to attend college. Scholarships enrich the lives of every student and enable them to give back to the community in meaningful ways. The gift of one scholarship can transform countless lives.
Partnering with Sun Health Foundation, Shepherd of the Hills recently donated $40,000 to benefit 20 nursing students who are working on their Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing at Banner Del Webb. The goal of this scholarship fund is to support nursing students who will provide compassionate health care to those in our community who need healing, hope, and encouragement.
Graduates from Valley Vista High School in Surprise are awarded scholarships based on their goals, grades, extracurricular activities and community service. At their university of choice, students are required to enroll for a minimum of 12 credits per semester and maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0. Funding is provided through graduation with a bachelor’s degree. A grant of $18,000 this year is supporting six students pursuing degrees in nursing, interior design, business, finance, engineering, and music education. Abbie Rice, interior design student at Northern Arizona University says, “The scholarship has meant an abundance of opportunities for me because it has funded my academics that I otherwise would not have been able to pursue without the graciousness of those who helped me.”
