The Sun City Ukulele Club recently bestowed a rare lifetime membership to Gerald “Buck” Burns.
The club fosters a community built on respect, friendship and the joy of making music together at any skill level. According to club member Jim Walker, Burns epitomizes these characteristics.
Walker added that Burns is extremely active in the club. He participates in the club’s performances, which are voluntary. The club also has open mics, where club members can perform for each other. Burns usually performs a comic song, which he often has written himself.
Burns and his wife, Marilyn, purchased their first home in Sun City in 2005 and were “snowbirds” from Colorado. They are now full-time residents.
A member of the club from its inception, he is proud of the changes he has seen over the years.
“It is a great club and is getting better,” Burns said, “Wonderful music, approval, friendship and fellowship… (it is a) very satisfying club to be a member of.”
The club, which offers free ukulele lessons on the first and third Thursdays of the month, November through May, is open to all RCSC card holders regardless of musical skills.
