Two local women to be part of U.S. Women’s Open Golf Championship

Madison Rudsinski, assistant superintendent at Paradise Valley Country Club, and Brianne Kenny, manager of environmental science at Troon Golf, will be a part of the golf course maintenance team for the U.S. Women’s Open golf championship at Pebble Beach Golf Links July 2-9.

In all, 35 women will join 25 other volunteers and the 27 regular maintenance team members for daily preparation of Pebble Beach. This opportunity was created by Golf Course Superintendents Association of America member Bubba Wright, superintendent at Pebble Beach, and Kimberly Gard, Syngenta Territory Manager, according to a press release.

Women make up just two percent of membership in the association, which boasts more than 19,000 members. There are currently 67 female superintendents and another 76 female assistant superintendents who are members of association.

This opportunity gives women in the industry a chance to connect, be a part of a major event, and showcase a career path many don’t know exists.

Maintenance takes place early in the morning before play and again after play concludes each day. The idea of including a large number of women volunteers goes back to the association member Troy Flanagan, director of golf maintenance at The Olympic Club and host of the 2021 U.S. Women’s Open who included 28 women on the volunteer staff.

Last year 31 women were a part of the U.S. Women’s Open crew at Pine Needles under association member David Fruchte, director of golf course and grounds.
