City of Scottsdale ordered to pay $5.25 million in wrongful termination lawsuit

A Maricopa County Superior Court jury sided with former Scottsdale City Prosecutor Shawn Fuller May 14 and awarded him $5,250,694 in damages in a wrongful termination lawsuit against the city.

Fuller was hired in 2019 by then-acting City Attorney Joe Padilla but was terminated by City Attorney Sherry Scott approximately three months later for gender discrimination. Fuller subsequently filed a lawsuit against the City of Scottsdale and Scott. Nearly four years after his firing, a jury, after a 17-day trial, concluded that Scott wrongfully terminated Fuller.

Fuller’s attorney Joshua Carden said the case didn’t hinge on any single moment or piece of evidence.
