Residents of the La Loma Village and Hacienda del Ray senior care facilities in Litchfield Park will have access to a 90-day supply of masks and gloves thanks to a CARES Act grant administered by the Maricopa County Department of Human Services.
The city received $40,000 in grant funds to purchase personal protective equipment for use by La Loma’s 202 residents and Hacienda’s 57 residents, Management Assistant Sonny Culbreth told the Litchfield Park City Council during a special meeting Tuesday, Aug. 5. After posting a request for bids Thursday, July 23, the city received quotes from 113 companies and pared them down to two vendors.
The Litchfield Park City Council voted unanimously to approve Mr. Culbreth’s recommendation to purchase 46,650 masks from Gnomedica LLC of Magnolia, Texas, at a cost of $4,716.75 (11 cents per mask), and 139,866 gloves from Nova Technology LLC of New Canaan, Connecticut, at a cost of $9,890.93 ($7.07 per box of 100).
The PPE is scheduled to arrive by Monday, Sept. 1, Mr. Culbreth said, noting that each resident will receive two masks and three pairs of gloves daily to help stem the spread of COVID-19.
The remaining $25,392.32 will be set aside for additional PPE purchases.
