Wildlife groups, East Valley town agree on new park's turtle rescue effort

Wildlife rescuers will get another opportunity to search for turtles at Freestone Park after reaching an agreement with Gilbert and the project contractor on how the effort can proceed while lake renovations continue.

The town said East Valley Wildlife and Crystal’s Critter Haven met with project officials this week to finalize the next steps.

A rescue day is planned during the week of Oct. 5 at the south lake, where designated volunteers from the wildlife groups will be allowed into the construction area after receiving a safety briefing and wearing required protective gear.
