Healing from a domestic violence situation can be a tough road. But having a warm and fuzzy family friend around can help turn the tide, said Julie Peterson, co-director at Sojourner Center in Phoenix.
“Obviously, pets are instrumental in healing,” Peterson said.
In fact, a Urban Resource Institute survey found 97% of domestic violence survivors said keeping their pets with them is an important factor in deciding whether or not to seek shelter while 50% would not consider shelter for themselves if they could not take their pets with them, the survey said.
