The One Step Coyotes, the Valley’s first adaptive hockey program for adults who have intellectual disabilities, is embracing the 2023-2024 hockey season and looking for equipment and ice time donations, financial sponsors and volunteers to hit the ice.
Since the One Step Coyotes' formation in 2017 by One Step Beyond, Inc., a nonprofit organization that empowers adults who have intellectual disabilities through innovative programs, the team has continued to grow to more than 70 participants.
The One Step Coyotes’ season began Nov. 2 and will run through Feb. 27, 2024, with weekly practices from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at AZ Ice Peoria, 15829 N. 83rd Ave., a key supporter of the One Step Coyotes since the team’s inception.
“The One Step Coyotes continue to reach new heights and as we hit the ice for the 2023-24 season, we are seeking passionate volunteers that can lace up their skates and support our mission to provide opportunities for players of all abilities,” said Jared Woosley, director of special programs at One Step Beyond, Inc. “Volunteering, donating gear and showing up to support the team are just a few ways that the community can help us thrive and advance adaptive hockey in the Valley.”
Individuals interested in volunteering, providing equipment or sponsoring an upcoming adaptive hockey event can contact Woosley at JaredWoosley@osbi.org.
Individuals who are unable to volunteer but are interested in supporting the One Step Coyotes can make a monetary donation by visiting osbi.org.
