As Election Day Approaches
To allow candidates the right to respond to criticisms about their candidacy before Election Day, the last day Independent Newsmedia will publish new election-related letters in our weekly print editions is Oct. 21, and the last day they will publish online is Oct. 27. Candidates may submit a 150-word reply addressing criticisms only and should email them to AzOpinions@iniusa.org along with their name, address, contact number and the headline of the letter they’re addressing.
OPINION — As a 16-year Gilbert resident, I’m quite concerned about the cost of, and access to, water and energy, as I’m sure many of my neighbors are. The status of the Colorado River is getting dire, and I’ve seen it with my own eyes while driving to San Diego. Energy and water costs continue to escalate, hurting middle-class Arizonans.
Our ballots are being delivered this week, and we Gilbert residents have a real opportunity this election. We have a candidate for the State Senate in Legislative District 14 who has a lifetime of experience and expertise finding solutions to these critical problems.
Stephanie Walsh is an engineer who built an energy company of over 100 employees working on solving the exact issues we are dealing with. By electing her to our state Legislature, we can help not just Gilbert, but Arizona as well.
I’m imploring voters, regardless of their party affiliation, to look at the two candidates, not just the letter next to their name. Stephanie is running against Andy Biggs’ 26-year-old daughter, who has no experience or qualifications. She’s running strictly on her father’s name recognition and his coattails. She’s on the record stating that women should not hold public office.
Our choice is crystal clear. Let’s send a real problem solver, moderate, brilliant woman to our state Senate. Vote for Stephanie Walsh.
Legislative District 14 includes most of Gilbert and portions Chandler and Queen Creek. Please submit comments at yourvalley.net/letters or email them to AzOpinions@iniusa.org. We are committed to publishing a wide variety of reader opinions, as long as they meet our Civility Guidelines.
