OPINION — Education is foundational to our community and economy, which is why I am voting for Stephanie Walsh for State Senate to represent Legislative District 14. She will provide a strong and consistent voice supporting our public schools.
Stephanie is endorsed by Save Our Schools Arizona and by the Gilbert Chamber of Commerce. She clearly understands and articulates the connection between a vibrant and innovative public-education system and the positive impacts on economic development.
Stephanie is not a career politician. She built her career for over 30 years as a mechanical engineer who was founder and former owner/CEO of an engineering firm. As a business leader, she supports workforce training partnerships among high schools, technical and community colleges, universities and businesses. Stephanie also is an advocate for strengthening early childhood education and school-readiness programs, such as First Things First, as early learning is foundational to school success.
Stephanie supports increased accountability in the Empowerment Scholarship Account program to carefully monitor spending of our tax dollars, as well as to ensure teacher qualifications, safety and documented student achievement. By contrast, Mylie Biggs, her opponent, is focused on expanding the ESA program.
Stephanie states: “Arizona must continue strengthening workforce readiness and preparation for careers in technology, advanced manufacturing, healthcare, skilled trades and other high-demand industries.” Efforts in these areas will draw companies to the town of Gilbert and Arizona statewide. The Gilbert Public School District is the largest employer in the community. As our state senator, Stephanie is well-positioned to provide solid solutions to support public education, working in collaboration, to build bridges to the future.
Legislative District 14 includes most of Gilbert and portions Chandler and Queen Creek. Please submit comments at yourvalley.net/letters or email them to AzOpinions@iniusa.org. We are committed to publishing a wide variety of reader opinions, as long as they meet our Civility Guidelines.
