Republicans running together as a ticket raced out to a commanding lead in the ballot counts released through Wednesday evening for Legislative District 14 House of Representatives.
Newcomer Tyler Farnsworth had 15,669 votes for 41.63%, followed by the lone incumbent, Laurin Hendrix with 14,409 votes and 38.29%. Challenger Jedidiah Lyons was at 7,558 for 20.08%. The top two will advance to the general election.
Three persons are advancing to the general election because they faced no opposition in the primary: Mylie Biggs, a Republican for the Senate; Stephanie Walsh, a Democrat for the Senate; and Mary Rose, a Democrat for the House.
Republicans hold a significant voter registration advantage in Legislative District 14.
The district encompasses most of Gilbert along with small slices of Chandler and Queen Creek.
Arizona's election system allows early ballots to be processed before Election Day, meaning the first results released after polls close at 8 p.m. Tuesday typically include the bulk of early voting.
Additional batches of early ballots and Election Day votes will be reported throughout the evening and in the days following as counties continue tabulating ballots.
Unofficial results will remain subject to change until the canvass is completed. Winning candidates in the primary will advance to the Nov. 3 general election.
