Mountain America Credit Union planned in Mesa

Posted

A Mountain America Credit Union with a drive-thru is to be constructed on 1.5 acres at the northeast corner of East McKellips and North Recker roads in Mesa.

The development’s look and landscaping were discussed during the Aug. 11 Mesa Design Review Board meeting. Board member Nicole Lynam was absent.

It includes a 5,434-square-foot financial institution building and 2,397-square-foot facilities building, Staff Planner Kwasi Abebrese said at the meeting.

“Both the credit union and the facilities buildings will be located at the west portion of the site. The credit union will include a dedicated drive-up ATM lane as well as a dedicated teller lane on the east side of the project site with an approximately 700-square-foot canopy,” he said.

A total of 26 parking spaces are required and 32 spaces are to be provided on the east side of the credit-union building. Access to the site will be from McKellips and Recker roads, he said.

Construction for MACU branches typically take nine months to complete. The credit union is to be open 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, closed Sunday, M. Shane Sanders, Sanders Associates Architects managing/design principal, wrote in a project narrative.

“The footprint has been designed to service members’ banking needs within the location area and designed to accommodate up to 17 employees to service those needs,” he said.

The all-volunteer Mesa Design Review Board is unique in that its composition is set by the zoning ordinance to include two architects; two from other design professions such as landscape architecture, engineering, urban planning, interior design or other design-related background; one contractor or developer; and two residents, according to the city’s website.
