Glendale City Council election to feature 3 familiar names

Incumbents up for reelection are the only official candidates

Posted

Barring any significant write-in votes, this year’s election for three Glendale City Council seats to term out in 2022 will be drama-free.

After the filing deadline of Monday, April 4, passed, the only three candidates on the ballot will be the three council members who currently occupy those seats and are up for reelection.

The ballot for the Aug. 2 primary will feature Jamie Aldama (Ocotillo District), Lauren Tolmachoff (Cholla District) and Bart Turner (District Barrel).

As far as campaign finance, from the Oct. 1, 2021 to Dec. 31, 2021, Quarter 4 Report submitted in January and available in online city records:

  • Aldama received or deposited $7,550 during this reporting period, and spent $2,143.58. The balance at the close of the reporting period is $5,948.19.
  • Tolmachoff received or deposited zero during this reporting period, and spent $677.96. The balance at the close of the reporting period is $2,983.12.
  • Turner received or deposited zero during this reporting period, and spent $474.44. The balance at the close of the reporting period is $17,329.93.

While the filing deadline to appear on the ballot passed Monday, write-in candidates will still have an opportunity to file until 5 p.m. Thursday, June 23. The names of write-in candidates will not appear on the ballot, but votes for them will still be counted.

The Glendale City Council is made up of six council members elected from separate districts and the mayor who is elected from the city at large. The other members — Mayor Jerry P. Weiers, Councilmember Joyce Clark (Yucca District), Councilmember Ian Hugh (Cactus District), and Councilmember Ray Malnar (Sahuaro District) — are seated through 2024.

Glendale, Arizona, election, Jamie Aldama, Lauren Tolmachoff, Bart Turner
