Goodyear Chalk Art in the Park adds new creative attractions

Community puzzle mural, tote bag decorating join annual event featuring professional artists and student teams

Posted

Goodyear’s annual Chalk Art in the Park will introduce two new activities this year, inviting residents to help create a community mural and decorate their own reusable tote bags.

The free, family-friendly event returns from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Goodyear Recreation Campus, bringing together professional artists, high school students and residents for a day of sidewalk art, competitions and hands-on activities.

Among this year’s additions is a Community Puzzle Mural led by local artist Dariana Trevizo. Participants will color individual squares that will be assembled into a larger artwork featuring contributions from throughout the community.

Residents can also decorate tote bags using stencils and fabric markers, creating personalized, reusable keepsakes to take home.

Eight professional chalk artists will compete for the People’s Choice Award, while eight high school teams will vie for the traveling High School Challenge Cup. Community members can also create chalk artwork in designated squares, which may be reserved in advance or requested at the event.

Attendees will vote for their favorite artwork in three separate categories: professional artists, high school teams and individual community participants. People’s Choice prizes will be awarded in each category.

A live DJ will provide music, while food trucks will offer coffee and a variety of options. Chalk and additional art stations will be available.

Chalk Art in the Park welcomes visitors of all ages and artistic abilities. No previous chalk art experience is necessary.
