The goal, educators said, was to demonstrate how families can support math learning at home without the need for expensive materials.
“Our goal is to show families that math can be both engaging and accessible,” said Sean Kerr, a fifth-grade teacher at Burk Elementary. “Our staff has done a wonderful job creating activities that make learning exciting. I’m so proud of the work they’ve put in to make this parent engagement day a success.”
Similar events are taking place throughout the district. Greenfield Elementary hosted a Fall Festival featuring music, food trucks, games and a petting zoo.
Carol Rae Ranch and Highland Park Elementary held Trunk-or-Treat events, while Settler’s Point and Towne Meadows combined fun and fitness in their family gatherings.
Gilbert Elementary celebrated Día de los Muertos with art and performances honoring cultural heritage.
At the secondary level, Highland Junior High hosted a haunted house, and both Mesquite High and Gilbert High welcomed families and community members to their campuses for Trunk-or-Treat events with live music and food trucks.
District officials said the variety of events reflects GPS’s commitment to fostering a welcoming environment where learning is celebrated and families are actively involved.
