A fashion show and luncheon fundraiser for a Valley nonprofit is set for Saturday, March 1.
The event, called Runway for Hope, is hosted by the Assistance League of East Valley, according to a news release.
Held at the Marriott Phoenix Chandler, 1600 S. Price Road in Chandler, the event’s proceeds will help provide new school clothing for about 6,000 elementary students whose families are struggling.
Several young children from the Chandler Unified School District will model uniforms they received from the organization, the release states.
Fashions from Macy’s will be worn by 21 models at the event, which begins with boutique shopping and auction at 9:30 a.m. and a luncheon at noon.
Among the Runway for Hope models will be Chandler mayor Kevin Hartke, Chandler pediatrician Dr. Nilam Khurana, Pat Wolf of Sun Lakes and Chandler Fire Department crisis interventionist Kanika Henry.
Simone Cuccurullo, a reporter with a Phoenix TV station, will emcee the event. Auction items will include tickets to Phoenix Suns games, Chicago Cubs spring training games, Gammage Auditorium and Chandler Center for the Arts events. Jewelry, wine tastings, beauty products and a hotel stay will also be auctioned.
The Assistance League of also provides 14 college scholarships, 3,700 assault survivor kits for hospitals and police/fire agencies, support for hundreds of homeless teens in Chandler and Gilbert school districts and monthly socials at an adult day care center.
The Assistance League thrift shop, 2326 N. Alma School Road in Chandler, is an outlet that provides much of the funding, in addition to grants and the fashion show, the release states.
