Veterans Day-related events abound in Chandler area

Posted

Several events celebrating military veterans or Veterans Day are scheduled in the Chandler area in the weeks ahead. Here are a few.

City's vets events at Oasis Park

The city of Chandler plans to honor the women and men who have served in the U.S. armed forces at its annual Veterans Day event, taking place the Sunday before the holiday.

Beginning at 5:45 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 8, Chandler hosts the annual Veterans Day event at the Field of Honor, located within Veterans Oasis Park.

The celebration begins with acknowledgments recognizing local heroes.

Veterans Oasis Park is located at 4050 E. Chandler Heights Road, adjacent to the city’s Nature Center, in south Chandler. Free parking is available on-site.

This year’s event will also be the final event showcasing the 27 Flags exhibit as part of Chandler’s Celebration of America’s 250th birthday.

The exhibit features all 27 versions of America’s flag, educating participants on the history of statehood as the country evolved.

The event will also be where the latest round of names on the Field of Honor Veterans Memorial, now honoring 69 local veterans, is unveiled.

The Veterans Memorial is a permanent tribute to members of the U.S. military who have lived within the Southeast Valley.

The Veterans Day event and honor wall are presented by the Military and Veterans Affairs Commission and Community Services Department.
