A packed agenda awaits the Surprise City Council when it returns for its second meeting in two and a half months on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
The highlight is expected to be the council likely finalizing the separation distances for Battery Energy Storage Systems, or BESS.
After multiple public hearings with the council and planning and zoning commission, the council is expected to pick a distance for keeping BESS away from existing dwellings. P&Z commissioners recently picked a 100-foot distance, but the council will likely decide between that length and 500 and 1,000 feet.
