Reader feels Prop 409 unfairly burdens homeowners

With a price for the Valleywise Health bond of $898 million, one must question how wise it is to strap young and old homeowners with more taxes and stress to pay this bill while struggling to make ends meet with growing families or fixed incomes.

Another problem with the proposal is that this exorbitant amount is only an estimate of what all this building will cost, the actual price will not fully be known until the project is finished.

Instead of building more buildings at a time when people are struggling to keep their household expenditures down, perhaps unused school buildings and other buildings could be repurposed for clinics, etc. Much waste comes from looking at what we want and missing what is available to utilize.

Furthermore, where is the equality of sharing the expense? People who own their own homes put time and money into them, this raises the quality and standard of living of the community. It seems it would be more wise for our valley community if this burden of paying for questionable expensive structures came from a tax that everyone who lives or stays in the community must share in: renters as well as homeowners, people who shop in our community, and those who come for shorter times to relax and enjoy the beauty of Arizona!

Because Proposition 409 unfairly and unwisely seeks out homeowners to foot the bill, and reeks of uncontrolled spending, I am voting no on Prop 409.
