The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety is helping the city of Surprise offset costs for DUI enforcement.
The Surprise City Council on Aug. 4 approved a grant award of $58,500 to help cover overtime and employee-rated expenses related to participation in DUI enforcement activities throughout the city.
The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety manages federal grants and public awareness campaigns to develop, promote and coordinate programs to reduce crashes, injuries and deaths on the roads.

The federal safety funds come from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
