Sun City West’s Westernaires Chorus names music director

Kaitlyn Hudson will direct “Tidings of Great Joy,” the Dec. 13-16 fall shows performed by the Westernaires Chorus of Sun City West in the Stardust Theater, according to President Ken Kunze.

Hudson, 22, earned a bachelor’s of science in music with an emphasis in piano performance at Arizona Christian University last May. Although not required, she participated in choir all four years, conducting and serving as vice president of the ACU choral. She favors classical, southern gospel and bluegrass music and regularly performs with her family Hudson Harmony Band.

Hudson succeeds Sylvia Collins as music director. Collins directed the Westernaires Chorus and its spring and fall shows for the past eight years.

“Our board and members auditioned three excellent candidates,” said Kunze. “Kaitlyn impressed everyone with her maturity, knowledge, conducting skills, and ability to help members and sections master their vocal parts. We are confident that Sun City West residents will continue to enjoy our shows with Kaitlyn at the helm.”

Season rehearsals begin 8 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, in the Back 40 of the Stardust Theater. Residents interested in observing and perhaps auditioning are welcome.
