Credit card fee discussions continue at next workshop in Sun City West

Possible vote Feb. 22

The possibility of passing credit card fees on to Sun City West residents remains in the discussion phase. The Recreation Centers of Sun City West governing board worked through the numbers with Clif Swann, chief financial officer for RCSCW, and will continue discussions in the upcoming governing board workshop 9 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9 at the R.H. Johnson Recreation Center Social Hall, 19803 N. R.H. Johnson Blvd.

Looking at last year’s budget, association officials spent $620,000 in bank fees associated with credit card in the two main areas of golf and membership, according to Swann. In the area of golf, 88% of people pay by credit card and 11% pay cash, compared to other transactions and membership dues. Those are made up of 64% of fees paid by credit card and 35% paid by check, with 1% paying by cash, Swann added.

“Combined 72% of our transactions at point of sale and online are paid by credit cards, 23% paid by cash and 5% paid by check,” Swann said.
