Sun City resident proposes food co-op as safeguard against financial crisis

Resident seeks committee to explore feasibility, food security in Sun City

Sun City resident Wayne Lusvardi is looking for neighbors interested in exploring a community food cooperative, an idea he says could give residents another way to obtain food if a severe financial crisis disrupts conventional grocery and delivery systems.

Lusvardi wants to gauge residents’ interest in forming a committee to study whether Sun City needs a food co-op or buyers’ club. He said his proposal stems from his belief that the country is approaching a banking crisis that could leave people without access to their money and interrupt food distribution.

“Nobody’s doing anything, and this could be imminent,” Lusvardi said.
