Gant: Don't be fooled by fake calls

Posted

Several days ago, I received a phone call that went like this: “Hello, grandpa. It’s me your grandson.”

I replied; “Well, hello grandson, how you doin’?”

“Things aren’t going so well right now…” he replied.

“Oh,” I said, “have you been arrested and need me to send you some bail money?”

There was a loud click on the line. He hung up on me. These “grandkids” are just rude, aren’t they? I’ve received this “Hello, grandpa,” phone call about five times in two years.

The first time the “grandson” told me he had been arrested in Florida for drunk driving after a wedding reception. I replied; “gosh, how did you get a driver’s license? You’re only seven years old and what are you doing drink…” He hung up before I finished.

Many people have been ripped off by this and other scam calls. Please don’t be a victim. Scammers think we’re easy targets because we’re seniors.

Let’s prove them wrong.
