Fehn: Libraries in best interest of community

Posted

I just read the article in the Independent about the Libraries. In my opinion, someone or maybe two people are not thinking in the best interest of Sun City.

Based on the stats provided, the libraries provide a source of information and enjoyment to the residents.

Isn’t this part of the reasons why we moved here? The rec centers provide many reasons for our members to live here. Myself, I’m partial to Fairway wood, Vintage Vehicles Club and Bell metal, but most off all to the new friends my wife and I have met. Sun City is amazing. It gives us many activities to enjoy, of which the libraries are part of that.

Ok, I agree the vagrant problem is a problem. Protect our community, please. If Oakmont is easy access for vagrants then put security in place to stop their access. Don’t take away from our residents the reasons we moved here. I hear electronic key cards are coming. This might help. We need a deterrent to vagrants’ access and security guards might be the answer. At least it would be a good deterrent.

As far as space being needed, I’m sure for some clubs this is true. New incoming members to various clubs have caused this. On a whole, we are older now than we were 30 years ago and, based on my observation, we’re not getting younger. Yes, for some clubs more space is needed. Maybe a new larger location is the best move. But, back to the beginning, save our libraries.

The RCSC has money to expand current locations. I don’t write letters often, but this week’s newspaper and its front page article made me upset.

We need more space for clubs and a strong deterrent to vagrants.
