Aleo: Actions at Sun City rec board meeting show true colors

Posted

Today (Sept. 13) my wife and I attended the Recreation Centers of Sun City Board of Directors meeting and were appalled by toxic leadership when RCSC board President Sue Wilson abruptly adjourned the meeting.

Many people came to express support of ousted board member Karen McAdam and the disapproval of the board action to oust her. We came to hear people’s opinions and the board’s explanation. A few minutes into the meeting a person in the back of the room held up a protest sign and immediately Wilson slammed her gavel and improperly solely decided to adjourn the meeting without a motion. Wilson chose not to do any other RCSC board business or hear voices of the members of the RCSC. The RCSC board walked off.

Many of the meeting attendees gathered peacefully in the meeting room to discuss the significance of what just took place and what could be done. They had been denied a proper forum to be heard and were justifiably upset. Within moments a plain clothes law officer displaying a badge told us that if we did not leave the Sundial Center premises we would be trespassing. Really? Is that how this RCSC board chooses to treat the RCSC member attendees of an open RCSC board meeting? The majority stayed to continue a discussion without regard of the toothless trespass warning.

Wilson, please step aside and pass the gavel on to someone on the board better suited for the job. It is a shame that McAdam is no longer available.

RCSC meetings are recorded and may be viewed on YouTube. Please attend the next scheduled meeting 9 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 30 in the auditorium at Sundial Center, 14801 N. 103rd Ave. We look forward to seeing you there.
