A woman who fled the scene of an Apache Junction shooting was arrested at a house in Mesa, the Pinal County Sheriff's Office announced.
Peoria and Phoenix police, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, and the Mesa police Violent Offenders Unit contributed to the investigation.
Rachel Ryan (Pinal County)
PCSO had been looking for Rachael Ryan for her involvement in a home invasion that happened near the 1400 block of East 29th Avenue in Apache Junction.
A person called MCSO with a tip on Ms. Ryan’s location. The U.S. Marshals, along with PCSO investigators, found her at a home near the 7900 block of East 5th Avenue in Mesa. Ms. Ryan had been staying in a shed in the backyard.
Authorities arrested her at the home.
PCSO said Ms. Ryan was inside the Apache Junction resident's home Saturday night and helped invade it with two other people, Johnnathon Chambers, 30, of Buckeye, and Aaron Ryan. Ms. Ryan had unlocked the door so the other suspects could rob the homeowner.
Sheriff's deputies said the resident struggled with Mr. Chambers, during which the homeowner shot him. Mr. Chambers died at the hospital.
“We would like to thank the concerned citizen who called in an anonymous tip that allowed us to successfully locate and arrest our third suspect," said Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb. "Tips from our citizens are essential when it comes to crime prevention and solving cases. We are grateful for the help that allowed us to put a dangerous criminal behind bars.”
Ms. Ryan had fled the scene with a second suspect, Aaron Ryan. Phoenix police arrested him during a traffic stop near Tatum Boulevard and Greenway Road.
The Ryans face multiple charges including first-degree murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery, and burglary. PCSO charged them with murder because someone was killed during the incident, albeit not the victim.
