WHAM Art Center in Surprise starts a six-session pottery class Thursday, July 20 at the art center, 16560 N. Dysart Road, Surprise.

This is a program for students interested in taking beginning skills on the potter’s wheel to the next level and intermediate students to enhance their skills. Prerequisites are to be capable of centering, pulling a cylinder and throwing a bowl.

Sessions are from 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday nights. July 20 and 27, and Aug. 3, 10, 17 and 24. The studio is closed to the public at the time so participants are asked to enter through the courtyard gate.

Students can expect to keep two of their pieces and glaze them during the final class. Students should bring their favorite tools, a towel and apron.

The six-class course costs $253 total and is for ages 18 and up. Mike Brunson is the instructor. Book online at www.wham-art.org/classes/Clay Classes & Workshops
