Two people died Saturday when a plane crashed near the Superstition Mountains, authorities said.
They were 45-year-old Simon Nurrish, the pilot; and 53-year-old Stuart Gregory, the passenger.
The Pinal County Sheriff's Office reported the crash Saturday morning, saying "multiple parties reported witnessing an incident involving a plane. Air support was able to confirm a crash site."
The single-engine plane took off from Falcon Field Airport in Mesa, officials said.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.
The deaths were confirmed by the NTSB.
