Overnight work begins on I-10 stretch in Maricopa, Pinal counties

Work is underway to improve six miles of Interstate 10 between Riggs Road and the Gila River bridges in Maricopa and Pinal counties.

State transportation officials announced last week that motorists can expect mostly overnight lane restrictions as crews work on east- and westbound lanes. Completion is expected in July, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Part of the work includes:

  • Pavement improvements will be made along both directions of I-10.
  • Removing the top layer of the road – about 2.5 inches - and replacing it with asphalt pavement.
  • Replacing guardrail and pavement markings.
