The city of El Mirage is extending the closure of all facilities to the public through April 30 to align with Gov. Doug Ducey's Executive Order and latest recommendations to extend social distancing procedures through the end of the month.
This includes the closure of all gathering areas at city-controlled public parks, restrooms, field rentals, facility rentals, private rentals, dog parks, park ramadas, and basketball courts. All scheduled events at city facilities will be canceled during this time. Green spaces, open areas, and walking paths will remain open. El Mirage will continue to provide essential services.
“Continuing to keep the facilities closed to the public is our best way to encourage the public to practice social (physical) distancing,” City Manager Crystal Dyches stated. “The health and safety of our employees is also of the greatest importance, and we have shifted our operations to limit in-person interaction between employees.”
In addition, most city departments will continue to provide services remotely as it has since El Mirage closed facilities to the public March 18.
El Mirage will continue to evaluate the COVID-19 situation to determine whether the closure needs to be extended further.
The scheduled Council meetings for April will be held telephonically with public access available to be in compliance with the state Open Meeting Law. The meeting dates are Tuesday, April 7 and 21 (tentatively scheduled); each meeting begins at 6 p.m. For more information on attending the Council meetings, visit www.elmirageaz.gov. Call to the Public requests/comments can be submitted 48 hours in advance of the council meetings by emailing El Mirage City Clerk Sharon Antes at santes@elmirageaz.gov.

El Mirage City Court will remain open with modified lobby hours for the general public from 8 a.m.-noon Monday–Thursday. For more information on the El Mirage City Court, contact 623-815-2186.
