A teen is in jail and three others are facing charges after a fight at a West Valley school that involved a gun.
The assault happened Wednesday at Freedom Elementary School during afternoon dismissal among the suspects. The four people involved do not attend the school, according to a release from the Buckeye Police Department.
Just before 4 p.m. on April 23, Buckeye police were called to the school on Sundance Parkway to investigate reports of a fight and an armed man.
Officers arrived and detained two girls, ages 15 and 17, a 17-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man, who had a handgun. No one was hurt.
"During the investigation, it was learned some of the suspects know each other and had arrived at the campus to pick up relatives who attend the school," the release stated.
"That’s when a fight broke out and the armed suspect, identified as 19-year-old Iriel Rivera, lifted his shirt to reveal the handgun in his waistband."
Rivera was arrested and booked into jail on multiple weapons charges, police said. The three juvenile suspects were also arrested and face various charges, including disorderly conduct and disrupting an educational institution.
