2-month search in Mesa slaying ends in woman's arrest in Phoenix

A 27-year-old woman has been arrested as the suspect in the killing of a man in Mesa two months ago.

Mesa police said Kathryn “Katie” Hansen was arrested by Phoenix officers Saturday, April 8, in the shooting death of Keith Emmons, 32.

The shooting occurred about 2 a.m. Feb. 7 at a home near 1100 S. Palo Verde in Mesa. Police found Emmons dead inside a bedroom with gunshot wounds.

Witnesses identified Hansen as the suspect, and a warrant for first-degree murder was issued, police said.

The Phoenix Police Department notified Mesa authorities Saturday that officers had a lead and possible location on Hansen. Soon after, they took Hansen into custody, police said.

“The Mesa Police Department would like to thank the community for their assistance in this case,” officials said in a release.

“We asked for the public’s help and received several tips. Those tips allowed detectives to follow up on leads that we believe ultimately led to Hansen’s arrest. Our community’s willingness to step up helped us take a violent offender off the street.

"We hope this arrest brings some peace and closure to the Emmons family.”
