Weekend Picks: Valley events for Sept. 11-13

El Grito celebration, 9/11 remembrances, and live music highlight events across the Valley

The Valley heads into a busy September weekend with events ranging from a huge Mexican Independence Day celebration in downtown Phoenix to observances marking 25 years since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

El Grito Celebration will bring music, food, lucha libre, folklórico and fireworks to downtown Phoenix on Saturday, while communities across the Valley will pause Friday — and in some cases throughout the weekend — to remember those killed on Sept. 11, 2001. Memorial events include Glendale’s 2,071-step Tower Challenge, Tempe’s sprawling Healing Field, and ceremonies and service projects in several other cities.

For those looking for something completely different, progressive-rock veteran Alan Parsons brings his live project to Celebrity Theatre on Saturday. Here are some of the events happening around the Valley this weekend:
