Automated license plate reader technology and multi-agency coordination helped in making a recent sex trafficking arrest, Peoria Police say.
Police began an investigation on Sept. 14 into a potential child sex trafficking case involving a runaway 15-year-old female from Peoria. They say it was believed the juvenile female was traveling to Florida with an adult male and feared for her safety. Information obtained indicated the 15-year-old female was being sex trafficked.
Special Victims Unit detectives immediately began investigating and ultimately located the juvenile in Indio, California. With assistance from the Indio Police Department, officers safely recovered the juvenile in an area known for sex trafficking. The child confirmed she was being trafficked and identified the suspect as 32-year-old Donte Lofton Jr.
