A permit for a comprehensive sign plan for a Total Wine & More at the former location of a Bed Bath and Beyond north of Baseline Road and west of Signal Butte Road recently was approved by the Mesa Board of Adjustment.
The board voted 6-0 Aug. 7 in a consent agenda with other items to approve a special-use permit for the property in the limited commercial with a planned-area development overlay district. Vice Chair Shelly Allen was absent.
The property is approximately 12.74 acres and is part of the larger 66.6-acre commercial development known as Superstition Gateway West, Staff Planner Tye Hodson wrote in a memo to the board.
“The total signage that is being requested is actually allowed. The comprehensive sign plan amendments to the sign plan would allow for signs on the back of the building,” he said during a study session prior to the meeting. “So it is amending the allowed 240 square feet to the total signage that is being proposed at 312.64 square feet.”
Gary Potts of Profession Permits is the applicant. DT-SGW LLC is the owner.
The seven-member Board of Adjustment conducts public meetings to hear and decide requests for variances, special-use permits and interpretations of the city of Mesa zoning ordinance and sign code. Members are appointed for staggered terms of three years, according to the city’s website.
