The Mesa Public Schools Governing Board unanimously approved a Grand Canyon field trip for MacArthur Elementary School fourth graders at their Feb. 11 meeting.
The trip is planned for a single day and will see students visiting the Grand Canyon and Bearizona on May 2.
According to board documents, the students will learn and develop an understanding of how different Earth systems interact with each other, as well as evidence to understand how the Earth is changed and shaped by geological systems.
Board documents also say that the students will learn how climate, weather and human interactions impact the environment. The cost of the trip is listed at $170 per student, which covers transportation and entry into the Grand Canyon Park and Bearizona.
MUSD — also known as Mesa Public Schools — is the largest public school district in Arizona and has six high schools, nine junior high schools, 55 elementary schools and 18 choice and success schools.
