White Tank Mountains Conservancy raised more than $110,000 during its third annual Diamond in the Desert fundraiser Oct. 28 at The Corral at White Tank Ranch, according to the nonprofit.
Nearly 350 supporters attended, including elected officials from Goodyear, Litchfield Park and seven other West Valley cities.
Proceeds will support wildlife conservation, youth education and work with cities and developers to plan for wildlife movement before land is developed.
“The West Valley is growing fast, and the decisions made now about open space will shape this region for generations,” stated Sharma Torrens, the conservancy’s executive director.
The nonprofit’s programs include Youth to Mountains, which teaches K-12 students about science, nature and conservation, and Desert Defenders, a volunteer effort to remove invasive plants. It also organizes monthly litter pickups.
