West-MEC has received WESTMARC’s West Valley Excellence in Education & Workforce Development Award for its program preparing students for semiconductor industry jobs.
The career and technical education district was recognized at the annual Best of the West Awards for its Advanced Manufacturing program and a semiconductor cleanroom that opened this spring at its Northeast Campus.
Developed with TSMC, Amkor and Intel, the cleanroom provides hands-on training with industry equipment. Students learn skills and earn credentials to prepare for jobs as semiconductor technicians.
West-MEC plans to expand the training model to three additional locations over the next two years. Students at its new Southeast Campus, near Thomas Road and Loop 101, are expected to begin training in the district’s second semiconductor cleanroom in January 2027.
The district’s first group of Advanced Manufacturing students is expected to complete the program in May 2027.
