San Tan Charter's elementary school is hosting a toy drive for the Arizona Cancer Foundation for Children from Sept 8-11.

The toy drive leads to a Patriots Day commemoration Sept. 11.  That includes an all-school assembly at 9 a.m., including members of Gilbert Fire and Rescue Department.

Representatives of the foundation also will be on hand to thank the students for the drive.

The school is focusing the day on heroes and will have a few students read essays they wrote about heroes.

The toy drive is a “student-led” event where they are responsible for buying the toy or doing chores at home in exchange for getting a toy.

The school also will be discussing heroes for the week leading up to Sept. 11.
