Higley Unified School District students and staff recently commemorated the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks through educational activities, remembrance ceremonies and community service projects across the district.
Patriot Day and the National Day of Service and Remembrance provided opportunities for schools to honor those who lost their lives, recognize first responders and help students understand the significance of the events that shaped the nation 25 years ago.
For many of today’s students, Sept. 11 is a historical event they know only through lessons and stories. District schools incorporated classroom instruction, service projects and memorial activities designed to help students learn about the attacks and their lasting impact.
