Recycled Christmas trees from Gilbert get greener future

Posted

The town of Gilbert wrapped up another year of its Christmas tree recycling program with residents helping the town collect and repurpose about 2,000 trees.

These trees were given a second life and have played a role in sustainability:

A total of 515 trees made a splash at Bartlett Lake, creating cozy fish habitats in collaboration with Arizona Game and Fish.

At the Salt River Landfill Green Waste facility, 1,386 trees were transformed into mulch and compost, contributing to lush, eco-friendly landscapes.

The Gilbert Fire Department used a dozen trees for firefighter training.

Fifteen trees were sent to Aimee’s Animal Sanctuary and Goats with Horns Animal Sanctuary for animals to play with and snack on the branches. As a bonus, the trees also freshened their breath.

By recycling Christmas trees, residents help reduce landfill waste, enrich local ecosystems, and support environmental initiatives that benefit both people and wildlife.

Gilbert’s Christmas Tree Recycling Program is an annual initiative.
